Results of assessing the stability and plasticity of varieties Chrysanthemum hortorum selection of the SUBGI UFRC RAS

Chrysanthemum hortorum W. Mill ex L.H. Bailey is a perennial herbaceous ornamental plant that looks especially impressive in autumn. At present, varieties that are characterized not only by high ornamental and economically valuable features, but also have high adaptive capabilities are of great value. The aim of the work was to evaluate the ecological plasticity and stability of 58 varieties of Chrysanthemum hortorum selection of the South-Ural Botanical Garden-Institute. As a result of the study, an assessment of the growing conditions was given according to the index of environmental parameters. Of the four years of observations, the most suitable conditions were observed in 2020. The research was based on the methodology developed by S. Eberhart and W. Russell in a modern interpretation. The method used allows to reveal the potential of ornamental plants in certain growing conditions. The main indicators studied by this method were ecological plasticity and stability. It has been shown that the cultivars in the collection can be divided into the following groups: varieties with high plasticity (14%), low plasticity (24%) and those that do not respond to changes in environmental conditions (62%). It was found that all varieties in the collection are stable. As a result of the work, it was confirmed that the varieties of chrysanthemum bred by the SUBGI UFRC RAS are promising for further research in the field of plant breeding and acclimatization.
