The state of gluconeogenic function of the liver of dogs with diabetes mellitus
The article presents the results of a study of the features of gluconeogenesis in the liver of dogs with diabetes mellitus. For the study, 2 groups of dogs were formed with 6 animals in each, according to the analog principle. In an in vivo study, gluconeogenesis in dogs was assessed by measuring fasting basal glycemia followed by oral administration of glycerin as a glucose precursor . It was found that the initial blood glucose content of dogs with diabetes mellitus was 35.33 ± 3.02 mmol / ml, in control animals - 6.54 ± 0.33 mmol / ml. After a glycerol load, we found an increase in the glucose level in the blood of sick animals for 1 hour - by 13.6%, 2 hours - 10.1% and 3 hours - 10.3%, relative to the initial level (on an empty stomach). It should be noted that the glucose level did not return to the initial level, which may indicate incomplete breakdown of glycerol into glucose in the body of dogs with diabetes mellitus. In control animals, the glucose level changed reliably only 2 hours after the glycerol load (+12.8%), relative to the initial level. The increase in newly formed glucose in sick dogs is 9.5 times higher than in healthy animals. The established rate of gluconeogenesis in healthy and sick animals is almost the same and amounted to about 3.0 mmol / l / h. Peripheral tissue tolerance to glucose in dogs with diabetes mellitus is 9.6 times higher than in healthy animals. Thus, the obtained results allow us to reveal the pathogenetic mechanism of diabetes mellitus in dogs in more detail.
