Results of an experimental study of a seed scarifier

The paper develops an algorithm for processing perennial legumes with a dense seed coat using a disk scarifier, which allows to increase germination of up to 99 %. The effect is achieved due to the formation of micro-damages (scratches and cracks) on the surface of the seeds due to the mechanical action, which stimulates their awakening. The paper presents design features of the test model of the SS-0,5 device, including its schematic representation, patent No. 2786665, and describes the process of its operation. An optimization criterion has been chosen that characterizes the completeness of seed treatment after scarification. The results of experimental studies are presented to determine the effect of the rotation frequency of the disk working body and feed on the completeness of seed scarification. Regression equations for the completeness of seed scarification are written down depending on the factors studied. Experimental dependences of the completeness of seed treatment on the rotational speed of the disk working body and feed are presented. The best performance indicators of the seed scarification process are: the optimal rotation speed of the disk elements – 980–1150 min–1; the maximum seed feeding capacity – 650 kg/h; the achieved completeness of seed treatment – 97.0–98.8 %.
