Design of Human-Machine Interaction System for Civil Aviation: A Study of Non-Nominal Operation of SPO Cockpit
With the development of intelligence, many mechanical instruments in the aircraft cockpit are replaced by electronic instruments gradually. However, following the accident of Germanwings flight 9525, the rule which there must be over 2 people in the cockpit when the plane is in flight has remained in effect. When NASA put forward the single pilot operation (SPO), a key challenge emerged: how to ensure the safety of passengers when there is only one pilot flying the plane and dont occur such accidents is the key problem to solve. This article explores the development of SPO cockpit and design the safety control system (SCS) which used on the computer in cockpit. This system focuses on the pilot initiative behaviors, such as pulling the lever by a large margin when the plane is in a nominal flying. If such actions are detected, the system intervenes to stabilize the aircraft and restore its original altitude. The goal is to provide insights for enhancing safety mechanisms in Dual Pilot Operation (DPO) cockpits and refining the computer control program in SPO environments.
