HOMOGENEOUS MEMBERS OF A SENTENCE IN THE SYNTAXIC ORGANIZATION OF PROSE TEXTS FROM THE COLLECTION "ARABESQUES" BY SERHIY ZHADAN

The article analyzes homogeneous sentence members as a defining complicating device in Serhiy Zhadan's collection "Arabesques", which contains twelve stories. The predominance of homogeneous sentence members among other complicating devices is a clear sign of Serhiy Zhadan's idiostyle. The continuous selection method made it possible to identify in the stories more than 93% of sentences that contain such constructions (647 cases of using homogeneous sentence members). The writer's idiostyle is dominated by homogeneous predicates (466 uses, 68.9%), which express action, movement, dynamics, give the texts energy, emotional intensity, often forming amplification. The frequency of use of other homogeneous members compared to predicates is much lower: definitions – 61 uses (9.4%), adverbs – 54 fixations (8.4%), subjects – 47 units (7.2%), circumstances – 39 uses (6%). Among homogeneous ones, simple verbal predicates in various temporal (mostly past tense) and personal forms significantly prevail, and compound verbal and compound nominal predicates are much less common. The small number of secondary homogeneous members of the sentence, primarily circumstances and definitions, is due to the fact that the writer most often uses separate definitions and circumstances, including clarifying ones. In Serhiy Zhadan's texts, homogeneous members are mostly connected by a non-conjunctive conjunction, sporadically by a conjunction using connecting, less often by contrasting or separating conjunctions. In addition, rows of homogeneous members of a sentence may contain combined means of communication. A characteristic feature of the writer's artistic discourse is the presence of sentences (both simple and complex) with several rows of homogeneous members. It is thanks to the use of homogeneous members of a sentence that Serhiy Zhadan creates an individual authorial style of writing, which makes the syntactic organization of his prose text recognizable
