Justification of ways to restore tractive capacity of one-layer composite stay rope

Abstract Article purpose is to justify a possibility for partial restoration of tractive capacity lost due to continuity breakages in reinforcing cables of a composite one-layer stay rope (elastomer-cable belt or rope). Possible low-cost ways to perform partial restoration of tractive capacity of elastomer-cable rope lost due to continuity breakages of its reinforcing elements are justified. It is established that the distribution of extreme internal loading forces on cables of a composite rope with cable diameter of 8.25 mm is decreasing and approaching uniform values with an increase in length of a removed cable part. The removal length is assumed to increase up to two meters and is measured between cross-sections of an operational cable breakage and a second artificial cable breakage. Mechanical properties and rope design affect only the length of a rope part with uneven stress distribution. Accordingly, they affect an expedient distance between real and artificial cable breakages. Practical significance of the article is in justifying a method for partial restoration of tractive capacity lost due to continuity breakages in reinforcing cables of a composite rope. This allows extending service life of an elastomer-cable rope without replacing its part, thereby reducing operating costs of production.
