Ecological and energy safety of transportation of carbon and low- carbon energy carriers

Abstract The characteristics of oil and petroleum products pipe line transportation in the conditions of emergency situations when the pumping stations of the linear part of the oil pipe line are disconnected and hydraulic impact is initiated in the pipe linear are presented. If one of the intermediate pumping stations suddenly stops, a wave of high pressure occurs moving to the previous pumping station with the speed of sound in the oil product and the phenomenon of pressure superposition originates. In this case the total pressure in the pipe line near by the previous pumping station can significantly exceed the working pressure which is unacceptable due to the strength of the pipes. A mathematical model based on the equations of the unsteady flow of oil in pipes is created taking into account the increase in pressure and the continuity of the flow at pumping stations which allows forecasting and analysing similar working situations. The hypothetical oil pipe line operation was considered and the measures of preventing the pressure from exceeding the permissible value for the given geometric characteristics of the linear part were developed.
