Assessment of the efficiency of the intermodal transport system

<ns3:p>The aim of the article was to present a methodology for evaluating the efficiency of intermodal transport systems. The article highlights that efficient intermodal transport enables cost reduction, increases operational efficiency, and mitigates negative environmental impacts. In subsequent chapters, a literature review was conducted on the efficiency of processes with a focus on intermodal transport. The importance of intermodal terminals as hubs for transshipment operations was discussed. The core part of the article involves identifying and mathematically formulating indicators for assessing intermodal transport systems, as well as point elements of the system, such as intermodal terminals. Each indicator was accompanied by an interpretation and potential application area. To demonstrate the applicability of the developed indicators in assessing the efficiency of an intermodal transport system, the TOPSIS method was used to conduct a multi-criteria analysis of three different intermodal terminal variants in a computational example. Each terminal variant was also evaluated against a reference range to which the specific indicator under assessment for the terminal should correspond. The conclusion emphasized that efficiency evaluation supports strategic decision-making, allows for the identification of bottlenecks, and facilitates the implementation of innovative technological solutions, which is critical in light of the increasing demands of the market.</ns3:p>
