Correlation of Results of Microscopic Examination of Acid Resistant Bacillus Sputum with Molecular Rapid Test (GeneXpert) in Tuberculosis Patients at dr. Loekmono Hadi Kudus Hospital

Tuberculosis (TB), an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, accounts for about one-third of global deaths. Worldwide, about 10.6 million new cases of tuberculosis (TB) were reported in 2023 by the World Health Organization (WHO), with 450,000 of them being rifampicin-resistant (RR-TB). In tuberculosis (TB) patients at Dr. Loekmono Hadi Kudus Hospital, this study aims to determine the correlation between AFB and TCM results. This descriptive-legal cross-sectional study used a random sampling technique based on inclusion and exclusion criteria to collect data from 45 tuberculosis (TB) patients in January 2025. AFB and TCM methods were applied to each sample. To assess the data, researchers used SPSS univariate and bivariate analysis, especially the Chi-Square test, to find the correlation between the two approaches. With an average age of 51.56 years and the majority of patients aged 46-65 years (48.8%), the results showed that 57.8% of patients were male. A total of 30 patients (66.7%) had MTB Not Detected results on TCM examination using GeneXpert, while 36 patients (80%) had negative results on BTA examination. The Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship between the two methods with a p value of less than 0.001. Thus, TCM is more sensitive than BTA in identifying tuberculosis, indicating that TCM has a higher capacity to detect the disease.
