The Tibet-Aid Project and Settler Colonialism in China’s Borderlands

This essay examines the expansion of the Tibet-Aid Project in Chinese President Xi Jinping's 'New Era' of Han-centric nationalism and explores how the project facilitates Han settler colonialism in the Tibetan Autonomous Region. It argues that the Chinese Communist Party views the Tibetan Plateau as a sort of 'final frontier', where the heroic 'Han man's burden' of bringing civilisation and progress into this far corner of the People's Republic of China remains incomplete but well under way.Tibet.
