Transforming Industry: The Role of Biosensors in Enhancing Efficiency, Safety, and Sustainability

Abstract Biosensors have sparked a revolution in the field of analytical chemistry, providing fast, sensitive, and selective detection for a large variety of analytes. In this paper, we discuss the industrial applications and advantages of biosensors for the detection of pathogens, biohazards, and harmful molecules. A basic overview of the major types of biosensors: enzymatic, immunosensors, and DNA-based biosensors are provided with simple examples to explain their functions. With respect to this, we point out the practical applications of biosensors in industry and focus on safety, quality, and security features in modern society through the crucial role biosensors play in the various sectors. Despite interference, instability, and limitation in detection, the field of biosensors is still in progress, along with research in multianalyte detection and integration with emerging technologies, biomimetic approaches, and environmental sustainability. Harnessing the power of biosensors toward finding solutions for some of the pressing issues in society, driving process improvements in industry, health care delivery, environmental management, and national security can lead to safer, healthier, and more sustainable societies.
