Agro-chemical effects on productivity and profitability of green gram (Vigna radiata L.) under rainfed conditions

Green gram is an important pulse crop which is grown widely in arid and semi-arid regions of country. Use of agro-chemicals under rainfed conditions help in altering the ill effect of moisture stress at sensitive stages of green gram. In this study, conducted during Kharif season of 2021 at Regional Research Station, Bawal (Rewari) of CCS Haryana Agricultural University (Hisar) situated in south-west zone of Haryana, Tragacanth katira was drilled in soil before sowing at concentrations of 2.5 and 5.0 kg/ha. Whereas, salicylic acid (100 and 200 mg/l) and potassium nitrate (1%) was foliar sprayed at flowering and pod initiation stages of green gram. Agro-chemicals were able to improve the growth, yield and yield attributes of green gram compared to control and soil application of Tragacanth katira at 5.0 kg/ha + foliar application of potassium nitrate at 1% were introduced as the best treatment under rainfed conditions. It led to an increase in plant height (20.6%), dry matter accumulation (44%), number of pods per plant (60.1%), test weight (15.6%) and yield (26.1%) compared to control.
