Impact of Oral Hygiene Maintenance during Treatment with Erich Arch Bars
The use of Erich arch bars in maxillomandibular fixation (MMF) is a common and effective treatment for stabilizing facial fractures. However, maintaining oral hygiene during this period presents significant challenges due to the presence of the bars and wires, which can trap food particles and promote plaque accumulation. This review explores the critical role of oral hygiene in preventing complications such as infections, periodontal disease, and dental caries during arch bar treatment. It outlines effective oral hygiene strategies, including professional cleanings, antimicrobial rinses, and the use of specialized cleaning tools.Emphasis is placed on patient education and compliance, highlighting the importance of tailored oral care protocols.By adhering to these protocols, both patients and clinicians can reduce complications, improve healing outcomes, and optimize the success of maxillofacial fracture management. The article also discusses the need for further research to develop more advanced tools and techniques for maintaining oral hygiene in patients undergoing MMF treatment.
