One step ecofriendly synthesis of CuO nanostructures and their structural and optical characteristics

This research reports the green synthesis CuO NPs using lemon & sugarcane juice assisted-self combustion reaction and their structural and optical properties. The characterization of two samples of CuO NPs was carried out using powder XRD, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, UV-Vis-NIR optical absorption & Photoluminescence spectroscopic measurements.XRD analysis revealed phase pure monoclinic structure of two CuO NPs samples and the mean crystallite size of lemon and sugarcane juice mediated CuO NPs samples was found 28.4 & 35.6 nm respectively. The Raman & FTIR analysis confirm the phase purity of the CuO NPs samples and one step surface functionalization by the organic moieties of green fuels. The obtained band gap of CuO_L & CuO_S are found to 1.92 (0.2) & 1.73 (0.1) eV, respectively. Thus, band gap of CuO is strongly dependent on the synthesis tactics.Upon 300 nm excitation both samples emitted intense radiation in the blue and green color region.Fluorescence analysis indicated presence of singly ionized oxygen vacancies CuO NSs.These greenly synthesized CuO NSs might be suitable for opto-electronic applications.
