Microsponges: A Promising Drug Carrier For Topical Delivery Of Nifedipine In Dysmenorrhoea Pain Management

The Aim of present study is to fabricate Nifedipine Loaded microsponge for pain management in dysmenorrheao through topical delivery. Calcium channel blockers, particularly nifedipine, have gain attention for their potential role in alleviating menstrual pain. specifically its ability to reduce calcium influx into muscle cells, thereby inhibiting uterine contractions and potentially providing relief from dysmenorrhea. It is a BCS class II drug which have low solubility and short half life frequency of dosing is increase which cause some side effect. Hence entrapment in particular carrier may reduce the side effect and release drug in controlled manner. Microsponge was successfully prepared by quasi emulsion solvent diffusion method. the organic phase contain drug, EudragitRS 100 & Dichloromethane and aqueous phase is PVA in aqueous solvent. During optimization the effect of drug: polymer on physical properties was evaluated. The optimized batch MS3 shows EE 85.5, percent yield 87.01. Finally optimized batch were incorporated into cabapol gel. The gel was evaluated for  invitro release compare with plain gel Nifedipine loaded microsponge gel shows  upto 75% drug release after 8 hrs and drug release from plain gel is very less upto 21% only compare to microsponge gel.
