Designing Physicochemically‐Ordered Interphases for High‐Performance Composites (Adv. Funct. Mater. 19/2025)

Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Composites In article number 2502972, Sumit Gupta, Christopher C. Bowland, and co-workers design a physicochemical scaffold using architected, chemically reactive nanofibers that bridge the carbon fibers and matrix at multiple scales, enhancing the mechanical properties of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer composites. These thermally activated nanofibers leverage their mechanochemical properties to form covalent bonds with the matrix, creating a co-continuous network that dramatically improves fiber-matrix load transfer, as validated through nanomechanical studies and molecular dynamics simulations.
