Dispersion analysis of EMAT-based metasurface augmented with synthetic impedances for vibration isolation
EMAT unit cells facilitate two-way, non-contact energy transfer between host vibrations and electric oscillations via eddy current formation and associated Lorentz forces. With careful spatial arrangement and fine-tuned coil impedance, such devices enable the semi-passive absorption of structural vibrations and elastic waves. In this research, we further explore the dispersive bandgap and transmission characteristics of an electromagnetic resonator embedded within a periodic metasurface configuration. By arranging the EMAT unit cells periodically, the system generates dispersive bandgaps that modulate wave propagation and enable targeted vibration suppression. Using synthetic impedance converters, circuitry enhancements are realized and employed, thereby increasing current flow and magnetic field strength. As a result, the electromagnetic coupling is enhanced, increasing bandgap width and facilitating optimal impedance tuning.
