Ciência da Informação, Competência em Informação e Caminhos Sociais

This research seeks to bring initial discussions about the social bias of Information Science and Information Literacy, with the aim of contributing to theoretical discussions on this topic in academia. The methodology used was bibliographic and qualitative in approach, with searches carried out in databases such as Web of Science, Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Journal Portal of Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, Reference Database of Articles in Information Science (BRAPCI), without temporal definition, however, with searches carried out during the second half of 2022 and the first half of 2023, in this sense, implicitly the time frame ends in June 2023, using languages in Portuguese, English and Spanish and use of the Boolean “and” for research. Both Information Science and Information Literacy have a social bias and provide the opportunity for research and studies with this focus to be carried out in the area, contributing to social discussions within the information field.
