Implementation of the Gender Responsive and Non-Discriminatory Student Discipline Manual (GRaNdSDisM) in Public Secondary Schools in Benguet, Philippines
Discipline is essential in student life, shaping behavior, academic success, and the school environment. In the Cordillera Administrative Region, the Department of Education (DepEd CAR) introduced the Gender Responsive and Non-Discriminatory Student Discipline Manual (GRaNdSDisM) on June 29, 2020. This manual promotes positive discipline strategies that teach life skills and self-discipline instead of punitive measures, aiming to create a safe, inclusive, and equitable learning environment. The study assessed the implementation of (GRaNdSDisM) in Benguet. This assessment focused on evaluating the awareness and implementation by the different stakeholders, identifying challenges or barriers to implementation. A survey questionnaire was used to collect data and semi-structured interview guide was used on the challenges encountered. The study on GRaNDsDisM reveals varying levels of awareness and implementation among stakeholders. School heads showed the highest awareness and implementation while student-leaders had the lowest overall. Challenges to implementation included limited awareness, resistance to change, communication barriers, and cultural resistance, highlighting the need for better communication and stakeholder engagement.
