STRESS INTENSITY EVALUATION AND ANALYSIS OF PISTON-TYPE SILENCED CARTRIDGE CASES

To investigate the method of stress intensity evaluation for piston-type silenced cartridges, the container check method was employed to conduct a strength analysis. By examining the force characteristics on the inner wall of the piston cartridge case and combining it with the properties of the chamber pressure curve, the dynamic load coefficient was derived. The inner wall of the cartridge case was sectioned based on force regions, with different loads applied to each section for numerical calculations. This provided results for equivalent stress, deformation, etc. These results were analyzed through stress and deformation contour maps and contact states, and compared with numerical results where the inner wall directly bears maximum chamber pressure. The analysis concludes that partitioning the load-bearing regions of the inner wall of a piston-type cartridge case more effectively reflects actual conditions. In evaluating the stress results for three materials— 45# steel, GCr15, and 40Cr—it was concluded that 40Cr exhibits superior performance in the strength analysis of piston-type cartridge cases.
