Kinesio Taping in chronic venous insufficiency management: an overview of recent findings
INTRODUCTION: Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a prevalent condition affecting a significant portion of the population. The therapeutic potential of Kinesio Taping (KT) as an adjunctive or alternative treatment for CVI has recently gained traction in clinical settings.EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: A comprehensive review was conducted, assessing studies focused on the efficacy of KT in managing CVI. Particular attention was given to the consistency of application methods, short-term versus long-term effects, comparison with established therapies, and patient-specific outcomes.EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: A noticeable variance in KT application methods and protocols was observed across studies. Most research emphasized the short-term benefits of KT, with a dearth of data on long-term efficacy. While some studies highlighted the benefits of KT over traditional treatments like compression stockings, others found it more effective as a complementary therapy. A significant gap was identified in understanding KT’s physiological mechanisms in alleviating CVI symptoms and its effect on diverse patient groups.CONCLUSIONS: KT holds promise as a therapeutic modality for CVI, offering symptomatic relief. However, the need for standardized application methods, exploration of long-term effects, and a better understanding of its mechanism of action are imperative. Clinicians should consider KT as a potential complementary therapy, but patient education and regular assessment are crucial for optimizing treatment outcomes.
