In many studies of human mental states, situational factors play a key role. The content side of the concept of “situation” and the degree of influence of factors of a particular environment on the human condition remains debatable. Based on the provision on the situationality of mental states of the individual, the regulation of states should be considered in the context of a change in the situation according to the degree of tension. Quite differentiated these situations are presented in students, where the situation of the lecture, conditionally can be considered as everyday; seminar - medium tension situation; and the exam appears as a tense situation. Thus, to consider the features of situational regulation of students' mental states, depending on personality traits, is an urgent topic for research. The study involved 114 students of Kazan Federal University, whose average age was 20 years. The following methods were used in the study: diagnostic testing, methods of descriptive statistics, cluster, one-factor dispersion and correlation types of analysis. It has been established that the form of the current process has a magnitude of the degree of stress: in the situation of a lecture and seminar, mental states of low and optimal level of mental activity are manifested; in an exam situation - high-level states. In a lecture situation, the situational regulation of mental states is determined by the external factor of the “Life Situation”; in the seminar situation - “Natural factor”; in the exam situation - the internal factor “Significant circumstances”. In the situation of a lecture and seminar, the situational regulation of mental states is influenced by the “Authoritarian style” of behavior and the level of self-esteem. In the exam situation - “Emotional instability” and the level of self-esteem. The practical significance of the study is seen in the application of the results obtained in the work of the psychological services of the university during training programs and the preparation of self-regulatory methods, taking into account personal characteristics.
