Obtaining lubricating greases from the epoxidation of Sacha Inchi seed oil

This study focuses on the production of lubricant fats from the epoxidation of oil extracted from Sacha Inchi seeds. The research addresses the growing need for sustainable alternatives to traditional petroleum-based lubricants by leveraging the properties of the Sacha Inchi seed. Through an epoxidation process, the oil was chemically modified to enhance its physicochemical properties and adapt it for lubricant applications. An experimental design was implemented to optimize the reaction conditions, evaluating factors such as reactant concentration, temperature, and reaction time. The results demonstrated the viability of this seed as a sustainable and effective option in the formulation of lubricant fats, concluding that it has favorable physicochemical characteristics both in its crude and epoxidized forms and complies with the INEN and ISO standards for such lubricants.
