Approach to perioperative management of peripartum cardiomyopathy with acute heart failure: A case report
Peripartum cardiomyopathy with decompensated heart failure presents significant anesthetic challenges. The complex cardiac pathophysiology, compounded by physiological changes of pregnancy, predisposes these patients to cardiovascular collapse during the perioperative period. We present the systematic management of a patient presenting with severe systolic dysfunction accompanied by respiratory distress, hypoxemia, and metabolic acidosis requiring urgent lower segment cesarean section. Current literature provides limited guidance regarding the management of critically decompensated patients. Successful outcomes in such cases demand meticulous planning, coordinated multidisciplinary care, readiness to address potential complications, and thorough patient counseling.
