Antikythera
Computation was discovered as much as invented and the implications for how we understand artificial computation are profound. Antikythera is the name of a new philosophy of computation that links an evolutionary perspective on technology, and the emergence of planetary computation in particular, with a generative program for how to orient it as it parents us. The core ideas connect synthetic intelligence—the ongoing artificialization of intelligence from the first symbolic notation to frontier models; recursive simulations—the active dynamic between functional models and the real world; hemispherical stacks—the unchartered geopolitics of computational infrastructures; and planetary sapience—the slow, technologically-mediated process by which planetary systems, from deep time to deep contingency, are made comprehensible. The research seeks to establish a school of thought that links humanities, sciences, and engineering in new catalytic relationships.
