ANALYTICAL MODELING AND EXPERIMENTAL VALIDATION OF PRESSURE-TIME PROFILES IN MORTAR PRIMARY CARTRIDGES: IMPACTS ON PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION AND SAFETY
A comprehensive analytical model on the internal ballistics of a 60mm Mortar Primary Cartridge design is explored to simulate the burning of propellant inside the Primary Cartridge chamber. This analytical model is compared to experimental results to validate the accuracy and reliability of the proposed approach. The model effectively represents key internal ballistic phenomena, including transient pressure evolution, variations in combustion rate, and the influence of cartridge design, demonstrating strong agreement with experimental data. This provides detailed analysis of combustion dynamics, gas expansion, and propellant interactions. The comparison between the model and the experimental results provide actionable insight and better estimation of pressure vs time profile, leading to a better ignition of augmenting charges and safe operations.
