Analysis of stress and strength of three kinds of casing under complex load: A computational study for sustainable energy supply

To improve the reliability of oilfield operations under complex loading, this study investigates the mechanical behavior of three casing materials — Q125, TP140V, and BJ125V — using finite element analysis. Traditional empirical models often fail to capture the effects of shear displacement and external pressure, prompting the need for detailed numerical simulations. Compared to prior work, this study evaluates the interaction of shear deformation (1-30 mm) and external pressure (up to 300 MPa) based on realistic material properties. Results show that Q125 reaches 726 MPa (98% of yield), TP140V 1140 MPa (88%), and BJ125V 793 MPa (91%) under maximum shear. As the pressure increases, stress grows by 25% 40% depending on the material. While extruding resistance strength declines with load, ultimate strength remains largely stable. These trends highlight TP140V’s superior performance and offer quantitative guidance for material selection and structural safety assessment, supporting sustainable and safe energy production.
