Supporting cattle health by respecting culture
Culture plays an important role for the veterinarian serving a particular population. Understanding one’s culture allows veterinarians to make better recommendations for a given producer, their employees, and ultimately, their animals. This presentation focuses on the author’s experience working with Amish and Hispanic owners and employees, delving into some specifics about both cultures. Ultimately the aim of this presentation is to provide the courage to ask more about the cultures around them, explore them respectfully, and encourage the owners of the farms around them to do the same. Doing so will enrich the veterinarian’s career and provide new and exciting ways to assist your producers.
