Role Of Algae And Physico-Chemical Parameters To Test Water Quality Of Argan Lake, Belgaum (Karnataka)
A study on Physico- chemical parameters of Argan lake revealed that pH is 7.20 to 9.80, electrical conductivity 170 to 200, dissolved oxygen 4.20 to 7.60 mg/L, total hardness 65 to 100 mg/L, calcium hardness 35 to 55 mg/L, total alkalinity 65 to 130 mg/L, temperature 210 C to 250 C, iron 0.20 to 1.00 mg/L, Phosphate 0.00 to 0.10 mg/L, chloride 30 to 120 mg/L, residual chlorine 0.20 to 0.50 mg/L ,nitrite 0.00 to 0.10 mg/L , nitrate 0.00 to 5.00 mg/L, ammonium 0.10 to 0.50 mg/L and fluoride 0.0 mg/L. Based on the investigation it is concluded that Argan lake is not polluted and is potable. Algal pollution index reaveled a score of 18 indicating that Argan lake is less organically polluted.
