Left Otomastoiditis Complicated by Subperiosteal and Epidural Abscesses in a Child
We present a case involving a 2-year-old child with left otomastoiditis accompanied by subperiosteal and epidural abscesses. Initially presenting with left ear pain and mucopurulent discharge, the child was diagnosed with left acute otitis media and treated with oral antibiotics. However, intracranial and extracranial complications manifested one week following the onset of acute otitis media. A contrasted study of high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) temporal revealed features consistent with left otomastoiditis, including the presence of abscess in the left subperiosteal and epidural region. Various treatment modalities were employed, including intravenous antibiotics, analgesics, and surgical intervention. We aim to discuss the complications of acute otitis media despite common antibiotic treatments, as well as the diagnostic imaging modalities utilized. Additionally, we will discuss the choice of treatment for this particular case.
