Mahri Vocabulary in Arabic Poetry: A Study of Dhu al-Rumma’s Diwan as a Model (An Analytical and Descriptive Study)
This study examines Mahri vocabulary in Arabic poetry, using the Diwan of Dhu al-Rumma as a case study. Mahri vocabulary refers to the words used in communication among the Mahra tribe, an Arab tribe residing in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula, specifically in Al-Mahrah Governorate in eastern Yemen. The research problem lies in identifying and analyzing these words and their usage in the Mahri dialect. The study is divided into three main sections: the semantics of vocabulary, phonological and morphological phenomena, and semantic development. The study reached several findings, most notably the authenticity and lexical depth of Mahri vocabulary, confirming that it is an ancient form of Arabic that has preserved its phonetic and stylistic features. Keywords: Mahri vocabulary, Arabic poetry, Dhu al-Rumma.
