IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ASTRAL SCORE IN THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT OF D.Y. PATIL HOSPITAL, NAVI MUMBAI
Ischemic stroke remains the leading cause of adult disability and a major contributor to mortality in India. Timely prediction of outcomes is critical to guide treatment intensity and counseling. The ASTRAL Score (Acute Stroke Treatment Registry and Analysis of Lausanne) is a validated tool to estimate 3-month prognosis in acute ischemic stroke. We conducted a prospective observational study at DY Patil Hospital, Navi Mumbai, including 47 patients. The ASTRAL Score demonstrated excellent predictive power with an AUC of 0.88 and good calibration. These results support its use in Indian emergency departments for early risk stratification and informed decision-making.
