SOCIAL SPACE, OLDER ADULTS AND THEIR WELLBEING IN THE INSTITUTIONAL CARE HOMES
This paper explores the critical role of social space in influencing the well-being of older adults within institutional care settings. It examines how spatial arrangements in care homes intersect with cultural perceptions of ageing to shape the lived experiences of elderly residents. This paper argues that thoughtfully planned environments respect cultural values and support personal independence, which can enhance older adults' dignity and quality of life.By highlighting the relationship between space, culture, and ageing, the study contributes to ongoing debates on elder care and advocates for spatial practices that promote inclusion, respect, and agency in later life.
