A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY OF ETIOPATHOGENESIS AND OUTCOME OF VARIOUS SURGICAL MODALITIES IN MANAGEMENT OF FISTULA-IN-ANO.

Background: Fistula is defined as an abnormal communication between two epithelium lined surfaces.Perianal fistula commonly occur in middle aged men. Fistula-in-Ano (FIA) is an abnormal communication between the rectum or anal canal and the perineal skin through a tract.Management of FIA remains challenging, with endlessly emerging surgical techniques preventing the development of a robust treatment algorithm. Aims & objectives: To study etiology, pathology, and clinical features, outcome and prognosis of various surgical modalities in Fistula-in-Ano.Methodology: A retrospective data analytical study was conducted among 61 cases of fistula in any and admitted at Department of General Surgery at Government Medical College, Surat. Results: The mean age of study participants was 38.2 +11.7 years.Of total,20(32.7%) cases were belonged to 21-30 years of age group.Out of total,57(93%) cases were males and 4(7%) cases were females. Among the study participants 54 cases had complained of Pus discharge, 59 cases had complained of pain, 6 cases had complained of constipation, 3 cases had complained of swelling, 2 cases had complained of serous discharge, and one case had complained of fever. Conclusion:There are no consistent criteria for evaluating the efficacy of different anal fistula treatment approaches, and there is no agreement on the optimal therapy due to the features of diverse inducements and forms of complex anal fistula. The precise application of a prescribed medication frequently requires the creation of customised plans based on the patient's unique circumstances.
