Lantanocamarolide, a new pentacyclic triterpenoid from roots of Lantana camara Linn. and its nematicidal activity against Meloidogyne incognita
A new triterterpenoid, lantanocamarolide (3-oxo-12α-hydroxyolean-22β-[β,β-dimethylacryloyloxy]-13β-28-olide; (1) and five reported compounds, oleanolic acid (2), lantanilic acid (3), camaric acid (4), camarinic acid (5) and oleanonic acid (6) were isolated from the methanolic extract of Lantana camara roots. Mass spectrometry, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic techniques were used to elucidate the structure of new compound. Compound 1 was also screened for nematicidal activity against root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita). The possible effectiveness of compound 1 in nematicidal control is evaluated as it exhibited 91% inhibition after 72 h at 0.125% concentration.
