STRATEGIES FOR TRANSLATING CULTURALLY LOADED INFORMATION FROM CHINESE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (BASED ON THE TRANSLATION OF YU HUA’S NOVEL “TO LIVE” / “活着»)

The purpose of this study is a comparative analysis of the use of machine and human translation of the text of fiction. The object of the analysis is the translation of culturally loaded information from the novel “活着» / «To Live» by the modern Chinese writer Yu Hua (余华) into Russian. The human translation of Roman Shapiro and online machine translations of the ChatGPT chatbot based on a neural network developed by OpenAI, and of the DeepL (DeepL GmbH) were compared. The subject of the study is the optimal possibilities of combining modern translation strategies with the involvement of human and artificial intelligence. The result of a comparative analysis of culturally loaded units of the original Chinese literary text and its translations by human translator and two artificial intelligence programs is the conclusion that in the process of translating a literary text, modern artificial intelligence programs can only be used as an auxiliary tool, because the literary text is emotionally filled and contains a large amount of background and non-equivalent cultural and historical information, subjective assessments and judgments.
