Research on the wear model of ADC12-POM gear pair based on Archard theory

Purpose The purpose of this study is to establish a wear depth model for ADC12/POM gear pairs based on the Archard wear model. Design/methodology/approach A diagram illustrating the distribution of surface wear along the tooth profile of ADC12/POM gear pair was obtained by numerical simulation. Then the wear experiment of the gear pair is carried out, and the conclusion is obtained by comparing the experimental results with the theoretical results. Findings The tooth surface wear of ADC12/polymer gear pair mainly occurs on polymer gears, there is almost no wear on the surface of ADC12 gears, which accords with the Archard wear model. Meanwhile, experiments showed that the wear of tooth surface occurred on the full tooth profile of gear meshing, which is different from the theoretical model. Originality/value A tooth surface reconstruction model, incorporating wear extent into the radius of curvature, was developed based on Archard wear theory. Subsequently, a model for the depth of tooth surface wear was proposed. An experimental platform was designed and built to study the wear of polymer gears, and surface wear experiments were conducted on the ADC12/POM gear pair under specified working conditions. A 3D surface topography measuring device was used to assess the depth of tooth surface wear across different wear stress cycles.
