Can Fluctuations in Technology, ICT, Financial Development and Exchange Rate Influence Energy Intensity?
This study examines the effects of positive and negative fluctuations in technological innovation, financial development, ICT and real exchange rate on energy intensity (EINT) in China from 1989 to 2020 using the novel wavelet quantile regression (WQC) technique. The outcomes show that positive fluctuations in ICT, exchange rate, technology and financial development increase EINT in the short, medium and long run across the quantiles. The negative fluctuations in ICT, technology and financial development negatively correlate with EINT in the short run, medium run and long run. The findings of the study call for relevant policy prescriptions.
