Harnessing Data Analytics for Sustainable Healthcare Operational Models: A Focus on Trauma and Emergency Care
This literature review examines the role and integration of data analytics in advancing sustainable healthcare operational models, with a focuse on trauma and emergency care systems. Employing a narrative literature review methodology, the study draws from a broad range of recent empirical and theoretical sources to evaluate how data-driven approaches influence clinical decision-making, resource optimisation, and patient outcomes. The review process entailed thematic synthesis of findings across domains such as predictive and prescriptive analytics, cost-efficiency strategies, and operational sustainability frameworks. Findings reveal that data analytics facilitates anticipatory care planning, improves triage and workflow efficiency, and significantly contributes to system resilience and cost reduction. However, challenges persist regarding data governance, ethical use of AI, and infrastructural disparities, particularly in low-resource settings. The study underscores the necessity for healthcare systems to invest in interoperable digital infrastructures, develop inclusive data-sharing protocols, and cultivate data literacy among health professionals. These measures are vital to translating data potential into sustainable, equitable, and high-quality trauma and emergency care delivery.
