The accordion technique for diaphragm plication
Diaphragm plication remains the only effective treatment for diaphragm eventration or paralysis.1,2 It provides a durable repair, with improvements in pulmonary function observed up to 10 years.3-5 Open, thoracoscopic, or laparoscopic approaches are acceptable, but robot-assisted plication using the Intuitive da Vinci Xi surgical system (Intuitive Surgical, Inc) provides major advantages. It not only provides similar postoperative outcomes but also allows for an excellent view of anatomy, superior range of motion, reduced operating times, and less postoperative pain.
