Aerobic Oxidation of Alcohols Using a Reusable Fe (III)/Bovine Horn Powder Biocatalyst
Abstract Keratin in bovine horn can absorb metals strongly so we benefited from this feature to prepare Fe( III )/Bovine Horn Powder (BHP) as a green and heterogeneous biocatalyst. Herein, we report Fe/BHP‐catalyzed aerobic oxidation of alcohols to carbonyl compounds. Moreover, we utilized NaCl as a cheap and available salt, along with isobutyraldehyde (IBA) as a highly efficient additive and oxygen acceptor respectively, to synthesize the relevant oxidation products in excellent yields and a short time under mild conditions. Furthermore, the prepared nanoparticles could be easily recovered and reused for five runs without any significant impact on their performance.
