Atypical Presentations of Hypopituitarism: A Report of Two Cases

Abstract Hypopituitarism is a relatively uncommon endocrine disorder with varying prevalence rates among different populations. Growth hormone deficiency is one of the common hormone deficiencies in hypopituitarism, followed by deficiencies in gonadotropins, thyroid-stimulating hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone, and prolactin levels. Most symptoms are nonspecific, so diagnosis may be delayed. We present here two cases of hypopituitarism in elderly males with atypical clinical presentations. The first case involves a 76-year-old gentleman presenting with hypoglycemia, hyponatremia, and hypotension, and the second case describes a 58-year-old gentleman presenting with generalized weakness, hypoglycemia, hypotension, drowsiness, and confusion, which upon investigation was diagnosed to have hypopituitarism. These cases highlight the importance of considering hypopituitarism in the differential diagnosis of patients presenting with recurrent hypoglycemia, hyponatremia, and hypotension.
