Development and characterization of kenaf filament reinforced chitosan biocomposites
In this position, a method of casting is used to investigate the utilisation of kenaf filament (KF) as a reinforcement component in chitin matrices to create an inexpensive biological material. The physical, thermal, and physiological properties of the biological composites have been assessed. The physical relationship between SF and the chitosan-based substrate in the biological composite specimens was verified by a Fourier transform infrared investigation. By using scanning electron microscopy to analyse the morphology of SF in the matrix, the development of single strands was seen as a result of the chitin solution's adhesive characteristics. The mechanical characteristics of the composites produced with increased loading were better. An X-ray reflection investigation revealed that the biocomposite has more precipitation than the chitosan film itself (CF). Because kenaf was present, the composite materials' thermal characteristics changed.
