EVALUATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF GREEN SPACES IN ERBIL

The green areas of the city it has a great importance and play an essential role in providing opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment of the pleasures of nature for the residents of the city , Therefore, it is noted that the municipality and the urban planning department are working to build several public parks and gardens and try to distribute them throughout the city in a way that suits the needs of the population .The green areas of Erbil city as a research area constitute a small area of the area and are not evenly distributed among the city.The purpose of this study is to identify the green areas of Erbil city and to highlight the importance of having this area in order to achieve clean air and a beautiful appearance for the city.In order to achieve the goal, each scientific research relies on a number of methods.In this study, the method (analysis and comparison) has been used to compare the green areas of Erbil city with scientific and international standards, in addition to comparing the percentage of greenery and population in the city, as well as the use of geographic information system software to create maps (GIS) and rely on aerial imagery and remote sensing and Excel software to analyze the data.The study concluded that there is an unequal distribution in the green areas of Erbil city and the municipalities of (3) municipalities (1) which have the second and least green area among the municipalities of Erbil city (3) (6,7%) and the municipality of (1) (7,1%) and in the study it was found that the city needs (81) parks and gardens according to the population of the area.The study requires 81 more parks and Grddens to meet the needs of residents.
