Estudio de la Dispersión de Aguas Residuales Mediante Emisarios Submarinos Utilizando MOHID Water en Chanduy

The settlement of fishing industries in the Chanduy parish has contributed to the deterioration of water quality in the coastal area. Many of these industries have wastewater treatment systems (sanguaza) and submarine outfalls to discharge these waters into the sea. However, practice shows that none of the submarine outfalls installed by the fishing industry comply with the technical guidelines outlined in Ecuadorian regulations, which demonstrates their low efficiency in achieving proper dispersion of contaminated waters. It is recommended, before conducting the research work with the predictive model, to consider key aspects such as the physicochemical properties and hydrodynamic mixing processes, especially in sensitive areas. The main objective of the study was to assess the efficiency of dispersion of wastewater discharged by submarine outfalls. For this, the MOHIDStudio software was used to simulate the behavior of the waters in the coastal profile of the Chanduy parish. The method applied employed mathematical algorithms related to direction, speed, and diffusion time. The results obtained from the variance analysis of the dispersion distances of the four submarine outfalls showed that only one of the submarine outfalls achieved a shorter dispersion distance compared to the other three.
