Induction of Labour and Maternal Self-Efficacy Part 1: A Global Perspective
Globally, there has been an exponential increase over the past 20 years in induction of labour (IOL) rates, as the predominant model of care shifts towards a medicalised archetype over birth. However there is limited research regarding the lived experiences of women who encounter IOL. Yet IOL is an urgent public health issue as it may undermine matrescence, cause negative psychological effects, including self-efficacy to birth. The first in a series of three articles, this report investigates how IOL affects self-efficacy (SE) to birth from a global perspective.
