High-temperature Si-Pr eutectic filler for brazing RBSiC composites: Wettability and bonding mechanisms

This study investigates the brazing of Si-Pr eutectic filler with Reaction-bonded Silicon Carbide (RBSiC), offering a comprehensive analysis of the wetting mechanism, microstructural evolution , mechanical properties, and fracture behavior of the joints . The results demonstrate that the Si-Pr eutectic filler achieves exceptional wettability with RBSiC, with no new phases formed at the interface, indicating stable and reliable interfacial interactions . Notably, the joint shear strength reaches 62.6 MPa at 1290 °C, with fracture occurring within the substrate, highlighting the superior mechanical properties of the brazed joints. The bonding mechanism involves Si adsorption and atomic bond formation facilitated by the diffusion of the filler and interface reconstruction. This work not only enhances our understanding of Si-Pr eutectic brazing alloys but also provides valuable insights for advancing composite material joining technologies, paving the way for more robust and efficient material connections in high-performance applications.
