B-79 | Outcomes and Costs of Different Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Devices on patients undergoing Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair with MitraClip (from the National Inpatient Sample Database 2021-2022

Background: Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER) has transformed mitral regurgitation treatment.Due to limited long-term data on TEER procedures, we aim to evaluate national trends in TEER utilization. Methods: A retrospective analysis of the National Readmission Database (2014-2021) identified patients undergoing TEER, excluding those under 18 years of age.Key metrics included procedural volume, index hospitalization cosrs (IHC), length of stay (LOS), and in-hospital mortality. Results: TEER procedures increased from 1,695 in 2014 to 12,812 in 2021 (P < 0.001) (Figure 1A).The median patient age was 79 years (IQR: 72-79), with 54.6% male and 45.3% female.Medicare was the primary payer for 86% of cases.IHC decreased from $45,915 in 2014 to $39,030 in 2021 (P < 0.001) (Figure 1B).LOS reduced from 4 days to 1 day (P < 0.001), and in-hospital mortality improved from 3.9% to 1.7% (P < 0.001) (Figure 1C,1D).Conclusions: TEER utilization has grown significantly, with marked improvements in costs, LOS, and in-hospital mortality. These trends reflect technological innovation, refined techniques, and growing provider expertise. As TEER expands to broader populations, ongoing research is crucial to enhance outcomes and accessibility.
