Geoscience-engineering-integration for Efficient Development of Tight Sandstone Gas Reservoirs-case of Sha II Member in NW Sichuan Basin

The Shaximiao Formation, located at the northwestern margin of the Sichuan Basin, is renowned for its vast distribution and significant resource potential, with a target annual production capacity of 50 × 108 m3. This study focuses on the exploration and development technologies for tight sandstone gas reservoirs, using the Sha 2 Member of the JQ Block as a case study. The paper systematically outlines eight key technologies for the integrated geological and engineering development of tight gas in the Sichuan Basin, and proposes five evaluation criteria and future pathways. Notably, the optimization of hydraulic fracturing techniques is emphasized, aimed at enhancing fracture conductivity and improving gas recovery. The integration of cost-effective rapid drilling methods, hydraulic fracturing, and multidisciplinary geoscience-engineering strategies has successfully increased production from 1.7 billion cubic meters annually to 2.3 billion cubic meters for the Sha 2 Member. These results highlight the effectiveness of sedimentary analysis, core sampling, and customized production techniques in optimizing tight gas extraction, with broader implications for similar reservoirs worldwide.
