ANALYSIS OF THE FUNCTIONING OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION ENTITIES IN UKRAINE: AN ASPECT OF STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Topicality. The article investigates and identifies the key factors and outcomes of the aggressive impact of external environment factors during the war on the foreign economic activities of agribusinesses in Ukraine. It examines the state of trade in domestic markets, access to international markets, and the logistical challenges faced, including occupation and blockade of ports, changes in logistics routes, rising logistics costs; the role of the Grain Initiative, and modifications in the regional structure of Ukraine's commodity exports. Aim and tasks. The study explores concept of "strategic analysis” as presented in academic literature, focusing on its various types, including PEST analysis or the McKinsey method, along with their characteristics and applications. Based on the research findings, the study defines the essence, types, and key aspects of strategic analysis, provides a theoretical justification for its application to agro-industrial production entities, and adapts the selected method for practical implementation to ensure their functioning and development. This has enabled the formulation of a methodological approach based on the McKinsey method for strategic analysis of agro-industrial production entities at the regional level, leading to the construction of a strategic matrix and the derivation of conclusions and recommendations. Materials and methods. To achieve the set objective, the following research methods were employed : the method of structural and logical analysis - for structuring and organising the article; the method of analytical and comparative analysis - to substantiate the necessity for strategic analysis as well as to select and shape its tools, define the essence of the economic category of "strategic analysis", and examine the types of strategic analysis of the macroenvironment of the object; absolute and relative values, comparison - for analysing statistical data on Ukraine's foreign trade during wartime, the activities of agro-industrial production entities and influencing factors; expert evaluations – for developing a rating scale to assess the impact of factors for conducting strategic analysis, constructing its matrix, and formulating conclusions and recommendations for agro-industrial production entities. Research results. It is proved and substantiated that the application of this strategic analysis method, following the proposed methodological approach, is essential for analysing the industry as a whole or specific type of activities that operate on a full cycle basis (from raw material production to the sale of finished food products) in domestic market and international markets. This enables the selection of development directions based on comprehensive assessment and analysis. Conclusion. The key challenges affecting the development of agro-industrial and maritime sector include ensuring security amid wartime conditions, destruction of port and production infrastructure, operational risks, restoration of non-current assets, implementation of modern production and logistic technologies, and attracting investment for these processes. Addressing these challenges requires further research and the development of effective solutions for their implementation.
